This initial mood board was a brainstorm of ideas relating to women's rights - made on InDesign

Inspo for Final Publication found on Behance - I like how the stereotypical historian view of women is combined with the glamorised version of women today

SHOOT 1
Model: Alicia Rhodes
Styling, Location and Props: With the styling I want to portray the historian side of the stereotypical women's role such as doing household jobs and then later create a contrast between women today and their freedom. The location is within a household and props such as everyday cleaning, cooking and tidying items were used.

SHOOT 2
Model: Alicia Rhodes
Styling, Location and Props: With the styling I wanted to display the reality, freedom and liberation of women today, in contrast with the past. Dark makeup used along with the use of a jumpsuit which is slightly revealing to portray change and rebellion. Mirrors, alcohol and makeup were used as props within this shoot. The location is within a garden, a renovated suntrap that has mirrors, blues and grey colours surrounding the area, making it a good back drop for photos.

This mood board is inspiration for my Test Shoot within the studio, I would like to create some of the lighting and shadow effects, along with the mirror effects as well. I will also be using gels to achieve the multi - coloured look.

PRACTICE EDITS

edit - Copy3.jpg

I experimented with the brightness, saturation, exposure and colour overlays to create this effect in Photoshop, the aim was to create a photo that shed light on the 'rose-tinted' view people have on the glamorised version of women today

old.jpg
oldb_edited.jpg

I wanted to create an 'old' effect using Photoshop for my historian shoot, therefore I tested out grain and overlays, however I realised it was too strong and takes the image quality away, therefore, in the future, I would make this effect more subtle

SHOOT 4
Model: Alicia Rhodes
Styling, Location and Props: I aimed for the styling to be based on the 'modern' version of women today, reflecting liberation. I wanted to use art - direction in posing and wanted to form a contrast between today and the past by using props such as household items to display the historian side of women's roles and contrasting that with props such as makeup to display the present version. This shoot took place in the studio, I experimented with different gels to create interesting lighting effects also.

VIDEO EDIT MOCK UP

Sound from Zapsplat.com

This video was made in Premiere Pro and consists of clips taken from the studio, it shows the ‘modern’ woman of today and in the final clip uses props to make a comparison to the ‘historian’ side. Doing this edit made me familiar with the software again, however, the video is very repetitive and in the future different locations/props will be used to create interest.

I don’t really like the video as only one form of lighting is used which makes the video quite plain and it doesn’t really lead to a clear idea of my concept

PUBLICATION MOCK UPS

I have decided my publication is best suited for a Culture & Lifestyle issue based magazine, using my images to compliment written content I have taken inspiration of ‘The Gentlewoman’ publication, as I find their styling is very unique and effective

Photoshop was used to create typography and the blemish tool was used to correct skin imperfections around the face

This mood board is inspiration for my publication, I want a simplistic design for the front cover and inside writing will accompany the  images to compliment them. I will also use the mixture of a visual and documentary approach.

CONCEPT

The concept is about women’s rights and liberation - the power of women today. A contrast will be used between the reality of women’s past expectations, such as women being housewives and not having a voice, to the modern day woman: free of control.

The publication will be issue based, rather than being mainly visual, to voice concerns with gender equality, I want the audience to see the power of women today through images and contrast that with peoples historian and stereotypical views of what a woman ‘should’ be like, through imagery and text.

This mood board is inspiration for my film narrative, I want to show the transition of the past up to the present day, displaying the contrast and forming parallels between the two - the ‘historian’ part of the film will be in black and white

STORY BOARD

video-highres.png

I want the video to switch between the past version of women’s ‘roles’ and the woman of the present day. The ‘past’ version will be in black and white whereas the ‘present’ will be shown in full colour to display comparison. Light music will feature in the background alongside talking from the model, key words will be highlighted in the video to make the message more powerful also.

This mood board is inspiration for my final shoot, I want to show the constraints and restrictions women had within the past, for instance, the image on the mood board with the woman wrapped in clingfilm, I want to use this technique myself to display how women were 'trapped', I also want to portray the glamorised version of women today, and use props such as roses, balloons and bubbles to display this

I like this pose, I took inspiration from Pinterest

I experimented with angles here and aimed for the glove to be the main focus of the image

I experimented with different angles in these photos, aiming to get the shoes as the main focus to add interest to the photos

I love the models eye on this photo and the positioning of the rose

I used household items to display a contrast with the present

VIDEO UPDATE

I decided to change aspects of the film from the original storyboard, I have still kept the original theme of flashing back to the past and present, however, due to inconveniences on the day of filming, the specific actions stated within the storyboard were not all met.
